Mersey Beat

Bill Harry, who founded the legendary Mersey Beat_ music-scene paper in Liverpool in 1961, is making early issues of the paper available again.

While covering music in the entire Merseyside area, _Mersey Beat_ became the historical documentation of the Beatles’ rise to fame and even boasted a column written by John Lennon.   Reissues of _Mersey Beat_, along with photographic art prints and T-shirts, are now being made available throughRockAndPopShop.com[3].

Harry, who went on to become publisist for the Hollies, Kinks, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Kim Wilde, Suzi Quatro and many others, told 99.5 The Mountain’s _Breakfast With The Beatles_ that there are plans to physically publish a new version of _Mersey Beat_ to coincide with Liverpool’s 2008 European City Of Culture designation.

A compilation of Liverpool musicians is being planned for release on CD in late 2007, says Harry, who also predicts Paul and Ringo will have major roles in the ‘Pool’s year-long celebration.
