Her only other such collaboration was the limited-edition range for H&M, which sparked chaotic scenes at the tills in London stores two years ago.  The award-winning designer, 35, said her friendships with glamorous Australian icons including Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett helped sway her when Target approached her last year.

“I love Australians. I think Cate Blanchett is stunning and we use [model] Gemma Ward in our shows,” McCartney said.

The Target range, which McCartney says was inspired by her late mother Linda, will include a trench coat, tailored jacket and trousers, shirts, a day dress and an embroidered cocktail frock.

The “Christmas 2006″ issue of “Record Collector” ($8.95) has two items of Beatle interest. One is an extensive interview with George Martin occasioned by the release of “Love” and the upcoming publication of “Produced by George Martin”. Jim Morrison and the Doors are the cover feature, but the George Martin story gets top billing among the other stories, along with an inset cover photo of him with John Lennon. The other is a five-star review of “Love”: “Love is a trainspotter’s paradise that allows you to unearth previously hidden jewels… A work of pure genius that has managed to make the most cutting edge music of the 60s sound more relevant today than ever before. … There are moments where you can’t quite believe your ears… Listening to Love for the first time is such an immensely moving experience it makes you want to cry. It is ineffably beautiful and incredibly exciting.”
