The Beatles’ company Apple Corps. and their record label EMI Records are suing a cleaning firm who mistakenly threw away the negatives to the photo session for the group’s 1963 Please Please Me album.
Britain’s The Sun reported that the two companies are suing the cleaning service Crystal Services for over $1 million, claiming that, “they were negligent, failed to follow instructions, failed to take reasonable care and failed to properly train or supervise their employee.” A cleaning lady threw away the photos that were in a bin labeled “Not Rubbish - Do Not Remove.” The Beatles’ photos were just a small part of over 450 transparencies and negatives kept at one of EMI’s headquarters in West London.
The iconic photos of the Beatles were taken on March 5th, 1963 on the stairway of EMI’sheadquarters. An alternate shot from that session was used for the group’s 1973 compilation album The Beatles 1962 - 1966.
