RIP Jack Alix
Posted by admin under News
Radio DJ Jack Alix died last Wednesday in Richmond, Virginia.
Alix worked at just about every top 40 radio station in Washington, DC and was one of the DJ’s who introduced The Beatles at the Washington Coliseum in 1964 and again at DC
Stadium in 1966. He’s clearly the youngest looking of the wig-wearing DJ’s onstage during the equipment setup section of the Coliseum videos. Alix is the one who shakes hands with the Fabs as they bound onstage. I can also pick him out in photographs taken on the platform at Union Station. Dean Griffith (who gave John his WPGC good guys sweatshirt seen in Miami photos), Johnny Dark, and Carroll James are the other DJ’s greeting them.
On June 28, 1963, Alix had Del Shannon’s take on From Me to You at number 10 on his hit list at WEEL. He was working at WEAM in 1966.
