Paul’s Polls

Poll April 2005 – Should McCartney Tour Europe Again?

poll0405.jpg

So the verdict would seem to be that McCartney would be welcome in Europe again.

Poll May 2005 – What Is The Most Wanted Next Beatles Release? poll0505.jpg

So it’s clear that Let It Be DVD is the winner here. What is amazing is that ‘Carnival Of Light’, which is a recording hardly any of us have heard, doesn’t score significantly higher than Hollywood Bowl or Capitol Albums Volume 2. Maybe we’re not that keen on hearing them shout ‘Barcelona’ over and over again?

Poll May/June 2005 – Ringo’s Album Choose Love

poll0605_1.jpg

The album was released on June 7th, 2005 and according to this poll there is a small majority that went out to buy it without listening to it first.

Poll June 2005 – Which Is Your Favourite Beatles Period? poll0605_2.jpg

Well, the results for this one very much like we expected, although quite a few voters indicated that they can’t choose between the 3 options. Is this because it is considered sacrilege to favour one over the other, or are they like me – sometimes I favour the early stuff at other times one of the other periods.

Poll July 2005 – The Worst McCartney Solo Album Ever Was:

poll0705_1.jpg

Hmm, this is the poll to regret as it was too negative a statement. The list of ‘Which Was The Best McCartney Solo Album’ would have been too long however to fit in a Poll.
But from the choices available, McCartney II is the ‘winner’ if you can call it that. Released in the wake of Paul’s Japanese adventure and the disbanding of Wings, it didn’t find him in one of his better moments. Driving Rain, however, doesn’t come off as bad as I expected. So there’s hope for Paul’s new solo album to be released in September 2005.

Poll July 2005 – Which Is The Best Of These 90’s Beatles Double Albums?

poll0705_2.jpg

Anthology 2 is the winner here, and I couldn’t agree more. I am however surprised by the big difference in votes between Anthology 3 and Anthology 1. Anthology 3 features a lot of tracks that clearly aren’t finished, and although it’s fascinating to hear these works in progress, Anthology 1 features some good alternate versions to well known songs. Then again in a previous Poll (see above) the 1967 – 1969 period was deemed to be the most interesting Beatles period, so it would tie in with that.

Poll July/August 2005 – Which Of These 4 Is The Best Live Album By An Ex-Beatle?

poll_jul_aug1.jpg

So here was a chance for McCartney to recover from the ‘Which Was The Worst McCartney Solo Album’ poll. And he passed with flying colours as you can see! This poll was held before the re-release of Bangla Desh (Oct, 2005) so that might have changed the result a little, who knows.
McCartney’s winning album from this poll will be carried forward to the next poll about Live Albums.

Poll August 2005 – Which Is The Best Of These 3 Recent Beatles Albums?

poll0805_1.jpg

Just after it was released, “Let It Be – Naked” was criticised as being a missed opportunity as it could have featured so much more than the very brief “Fly On The Wall” bonus CD offers.
Still it is the clear winner in this poll!

Poll August 2005 – BanglaDesh Re-release Oct. 2005 poll_aug_2.jpg

The record industry should make sure they press at least twice as many DVD’s then.
Oh, and if anyone has a spare DVD player for the poor sod that is just going to buy the CD, please get in touch with us.

Poll September 2005 – 3 Different Versions Of Macca’s New Single Is

poll_0905.jpg

The result of this poll indicates that 59% of the fans think that releasing a single in different formats is costing them too much money. However, if you look at the extremes (Daylight Robbery 33% and What We Fans Want 27%), then these are not so far apart.

Poll September 2005 – Which Of These Live Albums By An Ex-Beatles Is The Best? September05_poll.jpg

And once again Wings Over America is the winner. And Macca shares 2nd place with Harrison too!  We will soon do a poll on what is the best McCartney live album, but I think I can already predict the winner of that one.

Poll October 2005 – Chaos & Creation In The Backyard

poll_october2.jpg

The verdict on McCartney’s latest album is very positive with almost 82% giving it a thumbs up!

Poll October 2005 – The Most Exciting New ‘Beatle’ Release Is

poll_1005_2.jpg

Another impressive win for McCartney! And it’s interesting that Ringo’s new album is rated higher than yet another re-release of John’s Greatest Hits.

Poll November 2005 – Which Of These Is McCartney’s Best Live Album?

poll_1105_1.jpg

The result of this poll is hardly surprising as it already was the winner in previous polls about the best Live Album by an Ex-Beatle. And it is indeed a very good album! I’m surprised though that Paul Is Live only got 4 votes, as I think there’s nothing wrong with that one either.

Poll November 2005 – Who Should Be Regarded As The 5th Beatle?

poll_nov_dec2005.jpg

This Poll was one that attracted a lot of voters and gives George Martin his rightful place in Beatle History. Yoko scores quite well too!
And ’someone else’… who would that be? Mal Evans? Neil Aspinall?

Poll November/December 2005 – Which Of These Is The Best Beatles Film?

poll2005_nov_dec_3.jpg

Can’t say I’m surprised by this result. And it’s clear that no matter how often we’re told that MMT is a work of art, we still don’t get it…..

Poll December 2005 /January 2006 – Let It Be Naked Is

poll_dec_jan2006.jpg

61% didn’t think that the new ‘Let It Be’ was better than the original! Still, it gave is a few new versions of songs and the ‘Fly On The Wall’ CD, so I’m not complaining.
And this result is surprising as ‘Let It Be Naked’ came out as the best recent Beatles release in our August 2005 poll (see above).

Poll January 2006 – The Beatles Christmas Flexis

poll-january-2006.jpg

Though it’s not an overwhelming majority, most fans would like the Christmas flexis released on CD. Maybe it’s an idea for this coming Christmas?

Poll January/February 2006 -  McCartney’s Best Non ‘Standard’ Work Is

poll-jan-2006.jpg

The Oratorio is the clear winner and it is evident that Paul’s classical works are favourite.

Poll February 2006 – John & Yoko’s Best Album Is

poll_feb_2006.jpg

So it’s Double Fantasy that is the big winner here. That is not surprising. The high ranking of Two Virgins is a big surprise to me, but maybe that is because the album is historically important, more than musically?

Poll April 2006 -  The Possible Release Of  ‘The Beatles – Heavy’ Is

poll_20060401.jpg

A majority would like to see this release become reality. Sadly, word on the street is that this was indeed just a rumour.

Poll May 2006 -  In the end, McCartney’s protest agains the seal hunt

poll_may06_2.jpg

Unfortunately, our voters were mostly right. Still I think Macca deserves admiration for speaking out against this cruel practice and who knows what difference it will make down the line…

Poll July 2006 – The Cirque du Soleil tracks will offer

poll_july_2006.jpg

So it seems that there’s not a lot of confidence that this will be it.

Poll November 2006 – The Most Exciting New Release Will Be

poll_nov_2006.jpg

Love is the clear winner even if the previous poll shows that most thought it would be nothing to get excited about.
