McCartney says Lennon was the best

*There are some nostalgic bits on Paul McCartney’s new album coming out in

two weeks. I guess he has been looking back a bit and becoming more and more

nostalgic for the past as time goes on.  Word cannot even begin to describe

the creative power of the collaboration between Lennon and McCartney, but

you all know that already, right? *

*I played the new McCartney album for a friend last night, and we got to

talking about what John would think of it, and what John would be doing

musically now as well.  There are few musical moments that can approach what

Lennon and McCartney accomplished.  There are brief glimpses in Paul and

John’s solo careers that come close, but for the most part the two of the

working together is truly the cream of the crop.  Paul is recognizing that

fact and fondly looking back at his collaborations with John in an upcoming

interview. *

*Here’s what we’ve read.*

*Sir Paul McCartney has admitted working with other musicians is a let-down

after his partnership with John Lennon.*

*Speaking to BBC 6 Music, the 64-year-old singer said he was “a little bit

spoiled” by starting his career with Lennon.*

**

*”I’m a little bit wary of collaborating with other people because it

doesn’t happen as easily or as amazingly as it did with John,” he added.*

*The interview will be broadcast on BBC 6 Music on Sunday. *

*Sir Paul and Lennon met as teenagers in Liverpool, going on to form one of

the most successful and influential songwriting partnerships in musical

history.*

*Sgt Pepper anniversary*

*Since the break-up of the Beatles, Sir Paul has worked with many artists

including Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.*

*But he admitted nothing quite matched writing with Lennon.*

*”It’s a funny subject the collaboration thing because I collaborated with

John and you’re a little bit spoiled after that.*

*”That was one hell of a collaboration.*

*”I’ve done it quite a bit since and, I think - and I hate to say it -

there’s inevitably a sense of disappointment because it was just so cool for

John and me to be working together, because we started so young and knew

each other’s ways and minds.” *

*BBC 6 Music is to dedicate a day to The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts

Club Band album to mark its 40th anniversary.*

*BBC Radio 2 will also broadcast a special re-recording of the classic album

by contemporary artists.*

 Pitchfork interviews Paul McCartney

*The indie hipsters are listening.  It seems that after all this time even

with some of the hits and misses of the McCartney solo catalog it is hip to

be a Paul McCartney fan.  The ultra hipster indie kids over at Pitchfork are

taking notice  in a new McCartney interivew.  Apparently, his indie

credentials have been rising since Chaos and Creation.  Not a bad streak. *

*We don’t mean to beat you all over the heads with all of this McCartney

news, but we just get excited when new material gets releases, even if it is

“solo” material.  I’m sure once the remasters news starts picking up

shortly, we’ll turn our focus to more “Beatley” news stories.  For now,

check out the McCartney interivew in preparation as we lie in wait for the

release of Memory Almost Full. *

Solo McCartney downloads a no-show on itunes.

*I don’t get it.  First, the McCartney solo catalog is listed to be released

on itunes, then it is not.  I wish they would make up their minds already.

I guess the whole Beatles/Apple, Apple/Apple thing is just a hairy beast.

Personally, I really don’t care which online seller releases these beauties.

I think the important step is simply releasing them online at all.  Yet,

again another avenue that we all can find the music.  *

*I will hold out until the McCartney solo catalog is rereleased on CD.  I

need that artifact, something to hold and scour over.  Besides, as I’ve

stated here before, my hard drive has crashed way too may times in the past

for me to be messing with purchased downloads.  I need a “hard copy.”  The

whole mess of announcing the McCartney catalog online, but not on itunes,

just seems to me to be a half-cocked, haphazard way of doing things.  It’s

like they didn’t plan everything through, and they kind of look stupid.

It’s like the are missing the boat a bit, and they don’t have all of their

ducks in a row.  Hopefully, the Beatles’ catalog and it’s digital release

goes a little more smoothly.  *

*Here’s what we’ve read. *

*Former Beatle’s 25-album catalog goes live on most digital music stores and

subscription services, though iTunes has yet to add it.*

**

*Apple Inc., which made a **big deal*

<http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/05/15itunes.html>*earlier this month

about offering Paul McCartney’s 25-album catalog to its iTunes music store,

was the odd man out Tuesday as most other online sellers and subscription

services added the former Beatle to their portfolios. *

**

*In a press release May 15, Apple said: “Paul McCartney’s full catalog of 25

solo albums will be available for the first time digitally on iTunes later

this month.”*

*On Tuesday, however, some or all of McCartney’s backlist went live on

Napster LLCs’ Napster, RealNetworks Inc.’s Rhapsody, Viacom International

Inc.’s Urge, and Microsoft Corp.’s Zune Marketplace. Rhapsody, a monthly

subscription service, had all 25 McCartney albums on its site for real-time

streaming, and was also selling tracks for its usual US$0.89 each. *

*McCartney’s catalog was to be a precursor to the Beatles backlist going

digital — earlier this month, McCartney told **Billboard

magazine*<http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003583922>

* that a deal to sell Beatles tunes online was “virtually settled” — but

some or all of those plans may have been held up by the agreement Monday of

EMI Group, McCartney’s former label and the home of the Beatles, to a $4.7

billion acquisition by a private equity firm. *

*Apple did not respond to request for comment.*
