Rishikesh, June 29: ‘Chaurasi Kutia’, the ashram of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is in a sorry state as it wears dilapidated look because of government’s apathy.

The ashram is also popular among foreign tourists as Beatles Ashram because it is place where the Beatles, the world famous rock group, stayed in 1967 and penned some of their most memorable songs.

The Beatles were much influenced by the natural beauty of the place and equally impressed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

The most famous rock group in the world travelled to India to reconnect and refuel.

The Beatles’ fans who take the trouble to visit this 15 acre ashram on the outskirts of the city are shocked to find the beautifully crafted infrastructure as well as the campus in utter neglect.

It is situated on a small plateau among wooded hills about 150 ft above the Ganges River at the edge of the town of Rishikesh.

Government, which boasts of taking care of tourism in the state, has taken the place on lease but doing the least to save the place and its beauty.

The Beatles, also known as Fab Four, were an English rock band from Liverpool whose members were John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. They are the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed band in the history of popular music.
