Star of Beatles musical ‘Across The Universe’ initially thought idea was risky

British actor Jim Sturgess says he was initially a bit leery about starring in “Across The Universe,” a movie musical made up of Beatles songs. “I remember thinking this could potentially be a disaster.” But when Sturgess found out that Julie Taymor, the mastermind behind the majestic stage production of “The Lion King,” was directing the film, he was sold.

Writer calls for plaques at Fab Four’s Welsh venues

Over the years, the music of the Beatles has become a passion. So when rock and pop writer Elly Roberts was invited to take part in a programme with Spencer Leigh, BBC Radio Merseyside’s own musical doyen and walking pop encyclopaedia, he was delighted to find himself seated next to Ray O’Brien, of Cavern Club fame.

Candid Beatles photos revealed

Michael Peto was one of the great photo-journalists of the 1960s, and left 130,000 prints and negatives to the University of Dundee when he died in 1970. They lay forgotten until an archive project in 2004 when, among the collection was discovered his unofficial photographs taken during the filming of Help! in 1965.

Beatles fan sells rare album

Tony Williams purchased his prized stereo copy of the very rare “Portrait Cover” edition of The Beatles & Frank Ifield On Stage in the early 70s. When he found that it was not really a live Beatles album, he stuck it into the back of his record collection and forgot it. He recently sold it to collector in California on eBay for $4,500.

First Beatles fest a smashing hit

Around 400 advance tickets to A Hard Day’s Night in Galesburg, Illinois, were sold to Beatles fans in 14 states and the UK, but hundreds more showed up. Organizers expected attendance to easily top 800 people and are hoping not only to put on the festival again next year, but to double or triple it in size.
