If John Lennon had lived into his 60s, it’s a good bet he’d be a lot like the redoubtable Curtiss A: unreconstructed rocker, still possessing a primal howl, relentless critic of idiocies everywhere. But Lennon was stopped by an assassin’s bullet in 1980, the same night Curt started his extraordinary string of yearly tributes to the man and the incomparable music of the Beatles, now seemingly impossibly down to two survivors. It snowed lightly in the Twin Cities on that grim night so long ago. Shocked fans lit candles and traced peace signs in the powder, and the next day mutely stalked the downtown streets, the grotesque headline glaring from every newspaper box. So now we’ve got the Dean of Scream, with a little help from his friends, again promising to run through several hours’ worth of Beatles nuggets with the rousing spirit in which they were conceived. It won’t be just like starting over, but it’ll be as good as you can imagine. 18+.
