While his bitter divorce played out in the courts, Sir Paul McCartney had a secret operation to repair his heart, it has emerged.

The former Beatle had coronary angioplasty to widen his arteries after complaining about not feeling very well.

As revelations of his four-year marriage to Heather Mills continued to emerge, the 65-year-old went to see a Harley Street specialist for a check up and it was decided that an operation would be needed.
