Vegetarian Paul McCartney has ripped the leather interior out of his new eco-friendly £64,000 limo and had it replaced with cloth.

The former Beatle, 65, demanded that no animal products were used in the Lexus motor - a gift from the Japanese makers.

Instead, the LS600H hybrid car has been fitted with hand-stitched green weave cloth.

A source said: “Sir Paul was very particular about his order and made it clear he was not prepared to sit in a car surrounded by dead animals.” Leather was also removed from seat trims, the gear stick, sunroof and armrests.

He sang along to hymns during the hourlong ceremony in New Haven, Connecticut.
