BILOXI Sorry, Charlie, Ringo Starr’s gig is so-o-old out. –
Those of you who were lucky enough - we might even say smart enough - to snag a ticket will be pleased to know that this summer’s edition of the All Starrs, the 10th, will comprise the considerable talents of Colin Hay (Men at Work), Billy Squier (”Don’t Say No”), Hamish Stuart (Average White Band, in ancient times), Edgar Winter (Johnny Winter’s baby brother), newbie Gary Wright (The Dreamweaver), and on drums, Gregg Bissonette (ELO, and drummed for Steve Vai and Joe Satriani).
In addition to performing songs from Starr’s hit list - little numbers such as “With a Little Help from My Friends,” “Yellow Submarine” and “It Don’t Come Easy” - the All Starr Band will play popular tunes from each member’s repertoire. Plus, there will no doubt be a good smattering of songs from Starr’s new album, “Liverpool 8,” which hit stores in mid-January.
Here’s what we know about that album from info at the tour’s official Web site: The set, Starr’s 14th solo studio effort, brings together 12 new tracks co-written and produced by the former Beatle with help from the Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart. The title track and a few other cuts from “Liverpool 8″ are streaming at Starr’s MySpace page.
In addition to traditional pressings, the record is available as a pre-loaded USB wristband including the entire album, a personal video message, behind-the-scenes footage, ringtones, photos, and interview and track commentary from Starr.
“Liverpool 8″ follows 2005’s “Choose Love” and last fall’s “Photograph: The Very Best of Ringo Starr,” which comprises 20 tracks bundled with a bonus DVD.
This summer, Ringo and the band are playing 31 U.S. and Canadian tour dates; that circuit began June 19 at Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario, has included a show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, and will wrap up at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on Aug. 2.
