Twiggy’s daughter follows in her footsteps

LONDON, July 5 (UPI) — Famed British model Twiggy says she is excited she finally convinced her 29-year-old daughter to join her in the fashion industry.
The model, whose thin build won her great success during the 1960s, said her daughter Carly will help model her designs for the home shopping company Littlewoods Direct, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

A bitter-tasting jolt for Starbucks

couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of people. The collapse of Starbucks, I mean.

This week the Seattle-based coffee kahuna announced it is closing 600 of its 6,800 US stores and laying off more than 12,000 employees, or “partners” in the company’s New Age-y jargon. The bad news is the culmination of a long, downward spiral. During the past year, the stock has dropped nearly 50 percent, as the allure of high beverage prices and Italianate jargon – what does “venti” mean, anyway? – fades away, along with Americans’ discretionary income.

Even though it’s nearly half a century since the event, great-grandmother Phyllis Hilton has never spoken about the time she saw the Fab Four outside her Chorley Lane home because she didn’t think people would believe her.
