Once again joining Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey on the road will be John “Rabbit” Bundrick who began touring with the band in 1979; Ringo Starr’s son, drummer Zak Starkey who joined the band in 1996; Townshend’s younger brother, guitarist Simon Townshend, who also began touring with the Who in 1996; and bassist Pino Palladino, who began recording with Townshend in 1985 and permanently stepped in for John Entwistle immediately after his death in 2002.
Pete Townshend explained that the band’s onstage chemistry, now generated by himself and Roger Daltrey, remains a mystery: “One of the problems that we have in the Who, is that the dynamic, the dynamic tension that we create on the stage is of an order that neither Roger, nor I, really properly understand. It just sort of happens. And we don’t really know what it is that we’re dealing with. It’s like a mystery.”
VH1 Rock Honors: The Who premieres on Thursday, July 17th, at 9 p.m. on VH1, VH1 Classic and MHD.
