Paul McCartney took to the stage on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City on Sunday night, despite grumbling from some Quebec nationalists about a British performer accepting a high-profile gig as part of the city’s 400th anniversary party.

A return to Beatlemania as Macca fans storm through the concert gates

When he was one of the Fab Four, it was an almost daily occurrence for Paul McCartney.

Screaming girls would mob the Beatles wherever they went – at airports, concert halls and even Buckingham Palace when they arrived to receive their MBEs from the Queen.

And it was just like old times when 66-year-old Sir Paul gave a free outdoor concert to mark the city of Quebec’s 400th birthday.
