Beatlemaniac’s scrapbook

THE BEATLES A Beatlemaniac’s Scrapbook (This has to be one of the cutest Beatles items of memorabilia that we have ever seen. Somewhere between 1962 & early 1963, a young Liverpudlian girl went to see the current hot local band many times at the Cavern & around the Liverpool area. During that time she collected newspaper clippings & ALL FOUR of the band’s autographs in 1963, each on a separate autograph card!)

Being a Paul fan, she had obtained Paul’s autograph in late 1962& that was already lovingly taped into her scrapbook. Being nearly fifty years old, the tape has yellowed somwhat giving you a lovely sense that what you are looking at is a slice of history, not just a set of autographs with various newspaper clippings. The personality of the original owner and her infatuation with the local heroes oozes out, giving you a rare insight into what life must have been like for a Beatle fan in those pre-Beatlemania days before they made it big & moved to London. The scrapbook itself, complete with hand drawn & teddybear enhanced John, Paul, George, Ringo, Beatles cover, measures 10″ x 11″ & although several of the items inside are now loose as a result of the age of the sticky tape, still contains such gems as NEMS adverts for Please Please Me single, pictures of the band, local adverts for gigs at such exotic places as Grafton Ballroom in January 1963, Queens Hall Widnes in February 1963, clippings discussing the making of an LP at the Cavern, a back page from an early tour programme etc. It also contains a 1962 period Paul McCartney autograph lovingly taped onto page seven & four loose autograph cards, one with each band member’s signature that were once taped in place in the book. These autographs were obtained at the Cavern in 1963. Very unusual is that George has signed ‘harrison’ with a small H. This is a fantastic one-off that transports you back in time to those amazing days just before the world lit the blue touchpaper ….)
