Pete Best reveals how the pair were accused of arson.
Former Beatles drummer Pete Best has revealed he and Sir Paul McCartney were deported from Germany many years ago for setting fire to condoms.
Speaking in an interview with Absolute Radio, the star said the pair were ordered to leave the country on suspicion of arson after using the contraceptives as a source of light inside their van.
“We pinned them on the wall and they spluttered. Let’s get it clear, they weren’t used. We were charged with trying to burn our van down,” he told the news provider.
In other news, Sir Paul is said to owe Liverpudlian taxpayers more than £300,000 after he was overpaid for his performance at the Liverpool Sound gig in the summer.
The city’s Echo newspaper claims his production company MPL must repay the sum of £323,046 because the local authority provided staffing commitments for which the firm was paid.
MPL is said to have flagged up the situation with the council.
