MEETING Paul McCartney has an interesting effect on musicians. Some resort to crumbling wrecks. Some gush incessantly about his world-famous CV. Some get the autograph they won’t get from Ringo Starr.
Kanye West had a completely different motivation. Seeing Macca at the MTV Europe Awards in Liverpool earlier this month, West seized the moment.
He grabbed the former Beatle and played him one of his new songs, Heartless – a tale of a man who “lost his soul to a woman so heartless”.
“I thought the melody was very classic and he might connect with it and the words,” West says, with Heather Mills’ ears burning somewhere.
“I kinda wanted to get his approval on it, let him see that as a young songwriter I was coming up with things that might be classic. He liked it.”
