Dear Fellow Beatles Fans,
James Taylor once sang “The First of December was Covered in Snow”.
Well, it is not quite a covering, but the snow stuck to the ground here in the New York area!! We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. It is now
time to look ahead. However, we must first remember the passing of George
(November 29, 2001) and John (December 8, 1980). These are very sad days in the Beatles world, but it is important for us to stress the positive and
put on their music to remember why we celebrate their lives. It’s all there in the ‘grooves’ as we used to say. I listened to Brainwashed on Saturday,
and it was great to listen to it again. What a special album from George.
Last night in NYC, there was a Tribute to George Harrison, headed by FEST regular Kenny Forgione. 28 musicians gathered at BB Kings for a benefit,
and performed the entire Concert For Bangla Desh, plus more. Our own John Merjave, from Liverpool, was one of the many guitarists who took turns at
the lead vocals and guitar. As a personal eye and ear witness to the original event on 8/1/71, I got up and said a few words on what it was like being there. We saw a lot of familiar faces at BB Kings, and it was a memorable evening. Great work Kenny!
